What Would You do if You Weren't Afraid?

What Would You do if You Weren't Afraid?

After yesterday’s post, this is becoming a 2 part series on fear. It’s still on my mind so I thought we’d go to the next logical step with the question: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

I love this question because it leaves room for a variety of answers:

  • “I’d go skydiving.”

  • “I’d run with the bulls.”

  • “I’d speak on stage in front of a lot of people.”

When we think about conquering our fears we’re ready to risk life and limb, or face a demon that’s haunted us since we were kids. We’re all in. What about in your business? What would you do in your business if you weren’t afraid?

Ah, that’s a horse of a different color. This question, THIS question can make you freeze. We associate not being afraid with taking risks, and for some of us risk in business is SO SCARY. “Wait, you want me to not be afraid but you’re asking me to take a risk with my business?!” Okay, breathe. Not being afraid and being risky are not the same. I’ll say it again: being unafraid is NOT the same as taking big risks.

Fear is a good thing. Being afraid though, that can stop you from growing in your life and it can definitely put a halt to growth in your business. So when I ask you “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” I’m really asking “What is being afraid stopping you from doing in your business?” So many of us still get sweaty palms from this question. What’s more, even if we can identify what we’re afraid of with our business (we can, our fear is part of us and we ALL know what we’re afraid of even if we can’t say it out loud).

This is when we might start to look outside of ourselves for the answers. We want the people who aren’t afraid to tell us what to do next. We want to learn the steps, the process, the THING we need to do to not be afraid. We’re begging for the next webinar to be THE KEY that we’re looking for; honestly there are many great webinars, books, coaches out there but none of them will give you the answers. None of them will give you the answers. The best ones will ask you the right questions.

I can hear some of you now “Wait…what? I’ve got nothing but questions why do I want people to ask me more questions? I want answers!” I’m here to tell you: you have the answers. Yup, I’m saying YOU already have the answers. They might be camouflaged in plain sight or buried a bit deeper beneath self-doubt but they are there. What you don’t have are the questions that will help you uncover them. When we’re afraid we stop asking questions, and even more we stop hearing and seeking questions from other people. Why? Well because we’re certain we don’t know the answer! See the cycle being afraid can create?

So, I’m asking you: What would you do in your business if you weren’t afraid? Would you start asking questions? Even more: Instead of looking to hire the experts with the answers, would you pay the ones asking the right questions if it meant growing your business? Are you ready?

Gigi
